Supporting the Next Generation into Construction in partnership with WM Donald and Barnardos

Recently, we joined Barnardo’s and WM Donald to deliver an interactive training and careers day for nine young people currently taking part in a 10-week construction programme.

The aim of the day was to give the group a better understanding of the opportunities available within construction and civil engineering, while giving them the chance to hear real career stories, ask questions and take part in hands-on learning.

Our Business Development Manager Caryn and our Director of Training Iain spent the day alongside the teams at Barnardo’s which is the largest children’s charity in the UK, and civil engineering firm WM Donald, helping to showcase the wide range of roles available across the sector and what a future career in the industry could look like. With our partnership with WM Donald, they were happy to join in and host the students at their offices for the day.

This Aberdeenshire event was particularly important as construction and civil engineering continue to face skills and labour shortages. Giving young people early exposure to the industry can help break down barriers, build confidence and highlight career paths they may not have previously considered.

The day started with a presentation on the benefits of joining the construction industry and allowed the students to ask any questions and hear from real industry professionals, then we went outside to an interactive showcase where students got to learn how to build a bridge, learn how to drive a digger and learn how to lay bricks.

It was fantastic to see everyone getting involved throughout the day, and we hope the group left with a clearer understanding of the opportunities available to them.

At Rizon Training, we’re passionate about helping people build the skills, confidence and knowledge they need to progress within their careers.
