Why take this course?
H2S is a highly toxic gas that poses serious health and safety risks. This course is essential for anyone working in environments such as wastewater, oil and gas, or other areas where H2S may be present. It provides the skills to identify hazards, use detection equipment, and respond quickly to emergencies, helping prevent accidents and ensure a safer workplace.

Why this course is important
Scenarios for Use
-
Workers in areas where H2S may occur, such as wastewater treatment facilities, oil and gas sites or confined spaces
-
Contractors, site workers, and safety teams needing awareness of H2S risks and emergency response procedures
The Risk We Address
H2S is a highly toxic gas that can cause serious harm—even at low concentrations. It is colourless, heavier than air, and can quickly accumulate in poorly ventilated areas, making it difficult to detect without proper equipment. This course teaches participants to identify hazards, use detection methods correctly, and respond safely to prevent serious incidents.
Skills and Knowledge Gained
Participants will gain a clear understanding of H2S properties, common sources and potential health effects. The course covers correct use of detection equipment, breathing apparaus, safe exposure limits, emergency procedures, risk assessment practices, and basic permit-to-work requirements which are reinforced through practical exercises.

assessment type
Participants are required to complete a a short written assessment to demonstrate their understanding of H2S hazards, detection, and safe response techniques.

Certification gained
Certificates are awarded after successful completion of the course and will be valid for a three year period, after which recertification must take place.
